Welcome!

Hello! My name is Rose-Ellen Farmer and I'm getting my studio all revved up this fall. I teach Suzuki flute in Spokane, Washington and am currently looking for students. If you're interested you can reach me via email at SpokaneFlute at gmail.com (I will also soon be in the phone book). I would love to meet you and have you come to my studio to talk more about starting flute lessons! I am taking students of all ages and skill levels, from age 3 beginners (really!) to adults.

I have played flute for many years, and am a graduate of the Suzuki method. I have also taken teacher training courses to certify me as a Suzuki flute teacher. I attended Brigham Young University where I majored in Child Development and minored in Music.

The wonderful thing about the Suzuki method is that it's about love! We as Suzuki teachers strive to create an optimal atmosphere for learning- filled with music, fun, and loving guidance. We take the nag out of practicing and replace it with fun and games, songs and movement. Kids will WANT to practice!

We also can start children as young as 3 because they don't yet need reading skills. They are taught through listening, ear training, and mirroring the teacher and older students. Dr. Shinichi Suzuki formulated this method based on his observation that Japanese children speak Japanese. Now this may seem unremarkable, but have YOU ever tried to learn Japanese? Why can such little children learn the mother tongue with such ease? Because they first listen. For the first several months infants just listen. Then they begin to mimick and speak, and then they learn to read. And so Dr. Suzuki applied this idea to teaching music. Instead of barraging a beginner with reading and interpreting notes, proper positioning of intstrument, correct embrochure, correct fingerings, tempo, rhythm, etc etc etc, we just take baby steps! And we listen to a set of CDs with all the repertoire in the Suzuki flute method.

If you have a desire for you or your child to learn to play flute and play it well, please contact me so we can get started!
